Usurped

When Katharine gave me this lovely Asian-inspired bowl for my birthday, I envisioned using it for something like this:

I carefully placed it in on the living room window ledge imagining how wonderful it would look brimming with Empire apples. I intended to bring steaming mounds of roasted sweet potatoes to the dinner table in it.

Instead, a certain ginger tabby has taken up residence in its curves. He used to sleep on my sweaters. Now he spends most afternoons in what was once my bowl.

If you come over for dinner, I promise to wash it before serving you food from it. That is, if I have the heart to move its new owner. He seems awfully fond of it. Makes himself right at home.

Do you find pets in your dinnerware, or am I one step closer to becoming Crazy Cat Lady?

YOu see, this is why I’m not a cat person. I would go balistic if one of my pets was near the dishes that we use for food. And yes, since you ask, I do have Felix Unger tendancies.

Very nice bowl btw.

First of all, that looks terribly uncomfortable. I’d sleep in a saucer, maybe, but not a bowl. Second of all, your cat looks like a stuffed animal in that bottom picture. Is there some clever Photoshopping going on here? (I know there’s not, but he does look awfully boneless.) Third of all, I have a dog who sheds everywhere. So pretty much every fiber of matter in my house has some remnant of pug in it. Dana would have a heart attack.

The three cats who have succesively lived here in Boulder have found nests in their own particularly places. Cat #1 (Cinderella, a.k.a. Cinder, who was named by my then 3-year-old son) found a cardboard box full of old T-shirts in the back of a closet that was her nest. Cat #2, Callie, like a particular spot on the rug of a south-facing room when she was inside, and when she was outside, perched atop some cushions on top of a table in the gazebo. Cat #3 (current resident feline named Johnny Cash, The Cat in Black) likes a wing chair in the living room. Of course, it is upholstered in light fabric, so I’ve put a big towel on it — a towel now covered in black fur. I try to remember to remove the towel from the chair before guests arrive.

As for the bowl, no big deal, IMHO, since glazed pottery is easy to wash.

That’s about the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Your tabby is adorable. Neither of my kitties has ever curled up in a piece of dishware, but my calico is awfully fond of the ironing board.

Oh, and you’d only be Crazy Cat Lady if you’d actually bought the bowl FOR your cat…

I love these pictures! They’re precious! I thought cats went for soft warm cuddly spots.

I’ve stared at photo #2 for awhile now: Where oh where is kitty’s noggin?

Dana, I’m with Claire on the stance that glazed pottery is easy to wash, but will make a note to NEVER serve you food from that dish (assuming I ever get the chance.)

Cheryl, boneless is a very good description for my cat. He can contort in a manner that leaves us all amazed, which is why the Woodside Joneses couldn’t find his head. Hint: his chin is the white spot towards the centre.

Francesca, my cat is so fuzzy he seeks cool places — like the bathroom sink or the tile floors in the front foyer. Yes, he’s odd on many levels, much like his owner.

And AC — thanks for the reassurance! I didn’t buy him this bowl, but admit that now when I see similar vessels I think, “Hey! I know who’d like this…” and I don’t mean me.

I found our cat happily sitting in our large kitchen sink yesterday. Just sitting there in his happy cat semi-dozy place. Weird animal- it is winter, he is a Devon Rex without much fur and stainless steel is cold!

@Frugal Kiwi, sinks seem to be cat magnets. There’s even a website devoted to it. You should grab your camera and submit. Here’s a link in case your cats still napping:
