In a blatant act of self-promotion, I’m sending you to read my essay in the Globe and Mail in lieu of blogging.
It’s not funny. It’s not about food. It’s 850 words about raking leaves.
And I’m still sorry.

I have chills. What a powerful experience, Charmian. Your essay reads like an allegory even though it obviously happened in real life. Thank you for giving us something truly thought-provoking to reflect on this morning.
Charmian, you’ve written such a beautiful essay. I was really touched and I know I’ll be reflecting on it further in the coming days. All the fallen leaves around here will remind me!
Fabulous essay, Charmian!
Thanks for the kind words everyone.
And yes Cheryl, it happened in real life.
Dear Charmian,
Your gift for taking abstract black and white symbols and transforming them into a poignant story never ceases to amaze me. It is good that we can be reminded how much to take for granted, in so many ways, in such a eloquent way.
Love,
Robin
This was great. And I’m sorry I forgot to come back here and comment right away. I guess I was still in “thoughtful” mode after reading it.
Hmm. I could say so much more. I guess that’s the mark of a good essay!
